From A Painting By Rubens, The Seneque Death. XVII Teen Century. A Cut-out Drawing.
From a painting by Rubens, the Seneque death, 1612. The veins in his neck, torso, one arm, and thighs are very prominent. Seneque, viewed from the front, is looking upward, his arms in motion. He is submerged up to mid-thigh in a vat, the liquid of which is blood in water.
This drawing, executed in black chalk, is very finely cut out and pasted onto a white sheet. An antique cutout. The backing sheet is itself mounted on antique handmade paper.
France or Italy, 17th century.
Thanks to the nice amateur who indicated me the subject of this strange drawing.
