Portrait Of An Unknown Man Wearing An Earring, Attributed To Nicolò Cassana.
The pictorial style, color palette, and compositional structure allow this work to be attributed to the body of work by the famous Italian master Nicolò Cassana (1659–1714), also known by the nickname Nicoletto. Born in Venice, Cassana gained great renown as an excellent portraitist and produced numerous portraits in Venice. He left behind a rich artistic legacy, having worked notably at the court of the Grand Dukes of Medici in Florence before settling in London, where he painted portraits of prominent members of the British aristocracy and the royal family, including Queen Anne. The artist died in London in 1714.
