Anatoly Konstantinovich Verigo (1922, Odessa – 2001, Moscow).

Member of the Union of Artists of the USSR. He studied at the Moscow School of Fine Arts. In 1942, after graduating, he was drafted into the Red Army. In 1944, he was reassigned to the Grekov Studio at the Red Army’s Main Political Directorate. From 1944 to 1946, he worked in this studio as a war artist. During this period, he participated in two exhibitions: in 1945 with the painting “After the Battle of Iasi,” and in 1946 with “In Southern Sakhalin.” From 1950 to 1956, he studied at the Surikov Art Institute; his graduation project was the series “Muscovites on a Summer Sunday,” under the guidance of E. A. Kibrik. He has been participating in exhibitions since 1945. He is the artist behind the works “After the Battle of Iasi” (1945), “Portrait of the Artist” (1950), “Portrait of a Young Japanese Woman, Hisako Nagata” (1961), “Clown” (1964), “Country Kitchen” (1965), “May” (1968), “Doll” (1969), “Russian Memories” (1957), “Laure of Kiev-Pechora, Destroyed by the Germans,” and many others. A solo exhibition was held in Moscow in 1964. From 1958 to 1982, he taught in the art department at MIT. Many of his works have been acquired by museums. He held numerous exhibitions throughout his life.
