A large patinated terracotta sculpture, mounted as a pendant, depicting an allegory of the River God, based on the famous piece created for the sculptor Jean-Jacques Caffiéri’s (1725–1792) admission to the Royal Academy (1759).The work depicts a bearded man with a powerful physique and detailed musculature, leaning against an urn from which water flows (depicted in relief at the base). The clock movement is directly embedded in the jar. The entire piece rests on a molded base of veined blue-gray marble.
