Neogothic Candlestick With Dragons, Made Of Gilded Bronze And Enamel – 19th Century
An imposing and spectacular 19th-century Neo-Gothic candlestick, crafted from gilded bronze and richly adorned with polychrome enamel elements.
The domed base rests on three finely modeled winged dragons, which serve as both the legs and the sculptural decoration of the entire piece. These fantastical creatures, with open mouths, outstretched wings, and powerful claws, are characteristic of the 19th-century Neo-Gothic and medieval-inspired decorative style.
Both the base and the large upper bowl are accented with enameled geometric friezes in shades of blue, green, and red, creating a striking contrast with the gilded bronze. The cylindrical shaft is interrupted by a knot adorned with relief and openwork plant motifs.
The upper section features a wide cup fitted with a large spike designed to hold the candle.
A very beautiful 19th-century religious art object, particularly decorative due to the richness of its gilded bronze, its fantastical dragons, and the quality of its enameled decoration.
