Austro-hungarian Silver Bangle Set With "moretti " Motifs
An Austro-Hungarian Silver Bangle set with “Moretti” head motifs (sporting Turbans) in black and white enamel, alternating with garnets.
These Austro-Hungarian Moretti-motif jewels were originally designed as talismans. They differ from Venetian Moretti—which are more richly decorated and elaborate—in that they served as good-luck charms intended to ward off misfortune.
Created and worn centuries ago, they celebrated the victory of Good over Evil: according to legend, God intervened to save the local population from a Turkish invasion by unleashing a hailstorm which as a result buried and annihilated the invaders.
This bracelet is not hallmarked, but tests confirm that it is made of Silver. The chain is gold-plated. There is a Brooch similar that will be available soon. See last photo.
The Silver shows signs of wear as well as black spots, which I cannot guarantee will disappear (please see the photos). The enamel and garnets are in good condition.
