The lower painting
The Sleep of the Cupids (Nymphs Watching Over the Cupids)
A charming allegorical scene depicting the youth of the cupids.
In the foreground, several nymphs tenderly watch over a group of little cupids (putti) sleeping on drapery spread out in a flower-filled field.
In the sky, a deity seated on a cloud (probably Venus or Juno) contemplates the scene from above.

Pan Spying on the Bathing Nymphs
A mythological observation scene (similar to the myth of Pan and Syrinx).
In the center and on the left, a group of nymphs is bathing and preparing themselves near a water jug at the foot of ancient ruins.
On the right, the horned figure of the god Pan (or a satyr) emerges from behind a rock to watch them.


Oil on canvas
Included is an 18th-century wooden frame with gilded stucco and laurel leaf motifs.
