Set Of Six Chairs, Venice, Mid-18th Century.
These six elegant Italian chairs from the Barocchetto period(1720–1770) are made of natural wood. The backrest, consisting ofwith sinuous shapes, is made of molded wood and edged with asmall cord; its upper section is carved with motifs of curves andcounter-curves, a small flower, and stylized leaves, as wellas motifs reminiscent of the French Regency period. The seat isupholstered; the seat’s edge is scalloped and accentedby a cord that tapers to a small scrollon the upper third of the leg, the tip of which is shapedhoof-shaped like an animal’s hoof, with a few strands of hair hanging down from it. Invery fine condition, these chairs have been recently reupholstered, and while thepetit point upholstery covering them may need to bereplaced, the padding—which is in perfect condition—should be preserved.
