Patinated bronze group after Clodion – “Bacchanal with Bacchantes and Putti”
Period: 19th century
Style: Louis XVI / Neoclassical (in the 18th-century style)
Material: Bronze with a nuanced brown patina
Description:
An important sculpted bronze group with a brown patina depicting a lively Bacchic scene, characteristic of the Dionysian repertoire of Claude Michel, known as Clodion (1738–1814).

The dynamic, pyramid-shaped composition features two bacchantes dressed in light, antique drapery, surrounded by cherubs (putti) in the throes of festive intoxication:
One of the bacchantes carries a young child on her shoulders, while a second plays the pan flute (syrinx).
A putto at the top holds aloft a tambourine.
Two other children complete the scene on the ground, one clinging to the drapery and the other lying on the rocky mound strewn with vine tendrils.
A high-quality 19th-century cast bronze work, featuring exquisite detail in the chiseled hair, expressively joyful faces, and the fluidity of the drapery.

Height: 54 cm.
