Arbalète Console Table, Regency Period, Circa 1720–1730, Early 18th Century

Important French console table from the Regency period, circa 1720–1730, transitional to the Louis XV style

A significant carved wooden console table, France, Regency period, circa 1720–1730, featuring remarkably rich carving and a silhouette foreshadowing the early developments of the Louis XV style.

With a dynamic, strongly scrolled form, its front features a band carved in deep relief, adorned with foliage scrolls, volutes, acanthus leaves, and a central base, the whole punctuated by powerful foliage motifs at the bases of the legs.

It rests on four strongly arched legs, carved with foliage and acanthus leaves, whose supple and dynamic lines reflect the evolution of French furniture between the Regency period and the early reign of Louis XV.

The piece is topped by a large polychrome marble top, crossbow-shaped with scalloped edges, displaying a beautiful palette of cream, yellow, pink, red, and gray tones, with very dynamic veining.

The console features a beautiful warm brown patina, which particularly highlights the depth of the carving.

High-quality carving and construction, with historical restorations and repairs.
