This is a very pleasing Post-Impressionist composition by Gaston Aubert, created, I believe, around 1920–1940, in which the artist depicts a very pretty view of Angles-sur-l’Anglin, a famous village in the Poitou region where the Gartempe and Anglin rivers flow, at the junction of the Vienne, Creuse, and Haute-Vienne departments, also known for its ruins; in fact, painters passing through the region very often came to paint the ruins of Angles and then those of Crozant, not far away. 
Aubert’s technique is classical, a fine example of Post-Impressionism in the spirit of Gaston Corbier, Charles Hallé, or Henry Laurent. Aubert thus came to paint in Poitou and Limousin, but he is best known for his views of Provence. 
Thereis little biographical information available about Gaston AUBERT, a painter sometimes associated with the Provençal school of the late 19th and early 20th centuries. He was part of the Post-Impressionist movement and depicted through his works the life of the era in Provence, Brittany, and the Île-de-France region.
His works have an average price of around 300€, but some of his pieces have already sold for over 1,000€.
