Antique Painting, Oil On Canvas, Lively Landscape, Romanticism, Early 19th Century
Artist: Charles Henry
A magnificent oil painting on canvas depicting a countryside landscape at dusk (or dawn), in the style of the Barbizon School. The work features beautiful light, with a subtly colored sky and lovely depth. A human figure walks along a wooded path near a body of water, facing a distant village whose bell tower is visible.
The painting is presented in its very large and sumptuous period frame made of wood and gilded stucco, richly decorated with motifs of friezes, foliage, and crossed ribbons. A brass plaque engraved with the artist’s name, “Ch. HENRY,” is affixed to the lower cartouche of the frame. The canvas also bears the painter’s handwritten signature in the lower left corner.
Dimensions without frame: 41 cm / 22 cm.
With frame: 60 cm / 40 cm.
