Beautiful plaque by Auguste Ameling, a famous engraver, chaser, and medalist based in Passage du Saumon in Paris.
He is known for engraving official plaques and administrative insignia (such as those for notaries, rural constables, or mail carriers), often adorned with symbols from the Constitutional Charter.
The absence of official titles along the edge of our plaque (which usually bears the engraved inscriptions “Rural Constable of [Municipality]” or “Notary”) confirms that this is a blank plaque, a display model, or a workshop specimen preserved prior to final assignment.
A rare item, with 4 side mounting holes; never used.
