Archaic-style Bronze Vase, China, 19th Century

A Chinese bronze vase with a dark brown patina, baluster-shaped with a broad body, a tall, slightly flared neck, and resting on a small circular foot. It features two elegant ring-shaped side handles, each ending in a stylized zoomorphic mask.
The neck is adorned with large panels featuring archaic-style relief and engraved decoration, framed by geometric friezes of the leiwen type, embellished with stylized motifs inspired by the repertoire of ancient Chinese ritual bronzes.
The middle section is highlighted by a prominent archaic-style high-relief frieze, composed of stylized mask motifs, volutes, and geometric ornaments.
This vase was crafted in the style of archaic Chinese ritual bronzes, notably incorporating the forms and decorative vocabulary of the Shang and Zhou periods.
