A rare, high-quality model • Weight: 1.5 kg.
A superb coffee grinder, nice compact size, remarkable in several ways:
The ebony-like appearance isdue to the use of a processed plant-based material: a British patent from 1844, Vulcanite, or ebonite. In France, it was called “hardened wood.”
When polished, as on this grinder, it resembles a lacquer that highlights the striking design of four corners, foreshadowing  Art Deco. All the bolts resemble stones cut into four-sided cabochons.
The drawer is made of precious wood, with an ebonite  front.
A classic brass bowl, but edged with copper. A cast bronze crank handle with a beautiful, sinuous rosette design.
I was unable to see the mechanism, which is in working order.
Dimensions: Height: 18 cm, Width: 11 cm, Weight: 1.5 kg.
Condition: in excellent condition. Shows little sign of age thanks to its extremely careful craftsmanship.
Mechanism is sound and unworn. The crank is slightly bent.
A rare collector’s item, both decorative and functional.
