Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph 49140/423a, Stainless Steel, Full Set
A magnificent first-generation Vacheron Constantin Overseas Chronograph, reference 49140/423A, sold in 2003 by the Torrico jewelry store in Salamanca.
This iconic model from the Geneva-based manufacturer’s sports collection features a stainless steel case measuring approximately 40 mm, topped by a bezel whose design is inspired by the Maltese Cross. Its black dial features large luminescent Arabic numerals, a small seconds sub-dial, chronograph counters, and a large date window at 12 o’clock.
The watch is equipped with the Vacheron Constantin Caliber 1137 automatic movement, based on the renowned Frédéric Piguet 1185. It displays hours, minutes, a small seconds hand, a chronograph, and a large date. The crystal is sapphire.
The solid steel, screw-down case back bears the inscriptions “Vacheron Constantin Genève,” “Overseas,” and “Acier,” as well as the famous central motif depicting a sailboat. The water resistance originally specified by the manufacturer was 150 meters; however, it should be tested before any use in water.
The watch retains its original stainless steel bracelet, its Vacheron Constantin-signed folding clasp, and several spare links. The bracelet bears the code 423, and the clasp bears the internal reference 423/2.
This example comes with its original Vacheron Constantin presentation box, its certificate of origin and warranty dated August 12, 2003, its manual, brochures from the Overseas collection, as well as an official adjustment report issued by Vacheron Constantin on December 5, 2003.
The watch is in good overall condition. The dial is very well preserved, and the movement functions properly. The case and bracelet show normal surface marks consistent with the watch’s age and use. The case also shows normal wear from storage.
The presence of the original case, certificate, documentation, bracelet, clasp, and links—as well as the matching identification numbers—particularly enhance the appeal of this complete example of the first-generation Overseas.
