Antique 19th-century Tablecloth Made Of Silk With Petit Point Embroidery

A 19th-century textile artifact made of black silk, adorned with a wide band entirely embroidered in petit point, and edged on all four sides by a 10-cm-long black fringe.

The black fringe around the perimeter, featuring multicolored pom-poms spaced approximately 10 cm apart, is the most interesting feature of this textile: it is still in good overall condition, despite the absence of three pom-poms.At the four corners are beautiful tassels, 25 cm long.

The tablecloth is lined with white fabric and padded with batting.

The black silk of the background, especially along the perimeter, shows significant deterioration due to age, a common occurrence in silk fabrics of this era.The embroidered band is in good condition, with a few small missing sections.The fringe is missing three pom-poms.Some of the “balls” on the pom-poms and tassels have lost some of the silk threads that covered them.The white lining shows some stains and a small tear.
