Rosewood And Palisander Piece, Louis XV Style, Napoleon III Period—mid-19th Century

Louis XV sewing table in rosewood and palisander marquetry, crafted in a Parisian workshop in the mid-19th century.
This rare piece features a top richly decorated with rosewood arabesques and volutes, inlaid into a rosewood veneer arranged in a butterfly-wing pattern. The center is adorned with a brass plaque monogrammed “RD.” The top opens via two chiseled brass hinges and is held in place by an original compass mechanism on the right side. It features a two-hook lock in perfect working order, accompanied by a carved key. A rectangular mirror surrounded by moldings is set into the drop-down panel. Inside this writing desk is a sliding rosewood drawer, accompanied by a compartment with three compartments. When pulled out, we discover an interior also finished in rosewood.
The drawer front, which is movable and concave, is inlaid with rosewood and palisander, forming beautiful arabesques.
The underside of this small writing desk features a hopper-shaped drawer.
Finally, this desk rests on four elegantly curved, knobbled legs, ending in gilded bronze feet. The two outer sides, set against a rosewood background, are inlaid with rosewood.
Graceful and ingenious, this Louis XV writing desk will charm you with its unique design combining rich marquetry and elegance.
