Pierre Bertrand (1884–1975) was appointed official painter to the navy in 1936. He was primarily active in the Vendée region: Île d’Yeu, Noirmoutier, Les Sables d’Olonne....and he painted numerous oil paintings depicting the sea in all kinds of weather.
