About :Mathurin Moreau wasa French sculptor who worked in the traditional academic style of the19th century. Born in Dijon on November 18, 1822, he was the son of the famoussculptor Jean-BaptisteMoreau. In 1841, he enrolled at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and, the followingyear, won the Second Grand Prix de Rome with his sculpture *DiodemusCarrying Off the Palladium*. Several of his works are on public display in Parisand Cologne, including on the façade of the Gare duNord, *L’Océanie* in the courtyard of the Musée d’Orsay, and *ZénobeGramme* at the Père Lachaise Cemetery. In 1897, he received the Medalof Honor from the Paris Salon and was elected mayor of the 19th arrondissement, a positionhe held until his death on February 14, 1912.
