The Giraffe By Marguerite Soudanne - Hb Quimper - Brittany

Marguerite Soudanne was a 20th-century ceramic artist. She trained at the École nationale des Arts décoratifs in Limoges under the guidance of Charles Bichet, where she won the Grand Prix in July 1917. That same year, her father, Gustave Soudanne, offered his services and those of his daughter to Jules Verlingue. Both eventually moved to Quimper in 1918.

Marguerite then joined the Fouillen studio at the HB factory. Her talent was recognized at the 1925 International Exhibition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts,where she received the bronze medal in the ceramics section, while her workshop supervisor won the silver medal.

In 1926, the Soudanne family left Quimper for Boulogne-sur-Mer to work at the former Jules Verlingue earthenware factory, then directed by Henri Delcourt. After the factory’s permanent closure in 1932, she continued her work at the Faïence d’Art de Sainte-Radegonde,near Tours. Marguerite passed away in Tours in 1976, after having retired there.
