"an Elegant Small Writing Desk From The Louis XVI Period, Stamped 'ferdinand Bury'"
Artist: Ferdinand Bury
A charming little Louis XVI-era writing desk made of solid mahogany and mahogany veneer, stamped “F.BURY,” a master craftsman in 1774.
The desk is upholstered in soft green leather, with gold leaf applied with a fine iron tool around the edges.
It opens with a long, belt-style drawer along the short side, extending the full length of the desk (typical of these early Louis XVI-period desks).
The drawer is fitted with its original period bronze lock and key, also in bronze and from the same period (the lock works perfectly).
This table rests on four tapered legs with fine fluting, ending in gilded bronze feet and period bronze casters.
A very charming and elegant small table from the early Louis XVI period, featuring a very clean, understated design and the refinement characteristic of the Louis XVI style.
