19th-century Ivory Pipe Stem Carved With Battle Scenes
Extraordinary large two-piece pipe made of carved ivory.
The lower section depicts, across two registers, a cavalry battle and an infantry battle between ancient warriors, inspired by Trajan’s Column.
The upper section is carved with the head of a Roman warrior, topped by a masterpiece of movable lathe work.
