Art Deco Oak Floor Lamp – France, Circa 1930

Artist: Michel Dufet
Elegant Art Deco floor lamp in oak – France, circa 1930

In the spirit of Michel Dufet’s designs

This remarkable solid oak floor lamp perfectly captures the understated elegance and balance of 1930s French decorative arts. Its slender silhouette, defined by a finely fluted column resting on a circular base, reflects the pursuit of clean lines that characterized furniture from the interwar period.

With its architectural design and refined simplicity, it embodies the spirit of the creations of Michel Dufet (1888–1985), an architect, interior designer, and one of the leading figures of French Art Deco. Founder in 1913 of the company Meubles Artistiques Modernes (M.A.M.), Dufet championed a resolutely modern vision of furniture: elegant, functional, and accessible forms, where the quality of proportions took precedence over excessive ornamentation. He contributed to the revival of the French decorative arts, created interiors for the prestigious ocean liner Normandie, designed theater sets and interiors, and was one of the architects behind the evolution of French design toward a modern and timeless aesthetic.

Our piece perfectly reflects this philosophy. The fluted shaft, with its harmonious proportions, highlights the natural beauty of the oak, while the deliberately minimalist base emphasizes the slender elegance of the piece as a whole. The composition exudes a sense of quiet strength and understated elegance, typical of the finest Art Deco creations.

The floor lamp has been completely restored in our workshops. The wood has been carefully cleaned, inspected, and treated, while the electrical wiring has been fully redone to ensure perfect functionality. It is ready to take its place in a contemporary interior or in a home with character.

The lampshade, not original, was chosen for its harmony with the overall aesthetic. Its delicate weave and geometric patterns aptly evoke the decorative style of the 1930s and highlight the floor lamp’s silhouette without altering its character.

Serving as both a light fixture and an element of interior architecture, this piece will provide warm light and a truly striking decorative presence. It will appeal to Art Deco furniture enthusiasts, collectors, and interior designers alike who are seeking an authentic, elegant, and timeless object.

A beautiful French creation from the interwar period, inspired by the spirit of the great decorators of the 1930s, when the simplicity of lines became the finest form of luxury.
