Marble And Gilded Bronze Fireplace Ornament, Attributed To Christofle & Cie
A three-piece mantelpiece set, attributed to Christofle & Cie, consisting of a pair of vases and a central bowl. Crafted from red griotte marble and white marble, it is richly adorned with finely chiseled and gilded bronze mounts.
The baluster-shaped vases are adorned with superb gilded bronze mounts. They are decorated with vine garlands composed of grape clusters, leaves, and vine tendrils, executed with great attention to detail. The necks are adorned with lion mascarons supporting movable handles inspired by antiquity.
The central bowl features the same vine tendril decoration in high relief and is fitted with large, upturned handles in the Neo-Greek style, creating a harmonious and particularly elegant ensemble.
With the quality of its chiseled and gilded bronze, the elegance of its proportions, and the refinement of its materials, this set exemplifies the luxury productions of the Napoleon III period and can be attributed to the prestigious firm Christofle & Cie.
