Pair Of Gilded Bronze “à La Financière” Candlesticks, Louis XIV Style – 19th Century
A beautiful pair of candlesticks known as “à la financière”, crafted from finely chiseled and gilded bronze in the opulent style of the reign of Louis XIV.
Each candlestick rests on a substantial square, stepped base, richly decorated in relief with bouquets of roses, flowers, and foliage. This abundant decoration is enlivened by stylized dolphins, an emblematic motif of Louis XIV-era ornamental design.
The pedestal supports a flared base, accented with lanceolate leaves and surrounded by an elegant openwork wreath of roses and foliage. The tall quadrangular shaft, punctuated by vertical fluting, is interrupted at its center by a ring featuring heavily chiseled floral decoration.
The ensemble is topped by a square candleholder with scalloped edges, holding a candle of the same shape. The architectural composition, the abundance of ornamentation, and the balance of proportions give this pair a particularly decorative presence.
French work from the 19th century, crafted in the Louis XIV style after 17th- and 18th-century “bougeoirs à la financière” models.
