Medallion Containing An Authentic Fragment Of Saint Radegund’s Bone

A reliquary pendant containing a relic of Saint Radegund, enclosed under glass, sealed on the back with a wax seal bearing a bishop’s coat of arms.

The medallion is protected by two silver covers:

on the front, the coat of arms of the kings of France

on the back, a cross

Silver hallmarks (wild boar)

and goldsmith’s hallmarks.

Radegonde of Poitiers, born in 518 or 521 in Thuringia, died on August 13, 587, in Poitiers, was a Thuringian princess who became Queen of the Franks upon marrying Clotaire I, son of Clovis.

Radegonde obtained a fragment of the True Cross from Justin II, Emperor of Byzantium. In 1833, Father Mérel, pastor of the Church of Sainte-Radégonde in Boussay, wrote in the parish newsletter that he possessed a wooden cross with a small object embedded in it containing fragments of the Poitiers relic of the True Cross.
