Hereke Silk-on-silk Carpet – Turkey, Circa 1970 – Floral Vase Design – 62×93 Cm - No. 1716
An elegant Hereke rug, entirely hand-knotted in silk on silk, made in Turkey around 1970. Renowned for their exquisite craftsmanship and exceptional knot density, Hereke rugs are among the most prestigious examples of Ottoman textile art.
This piece features a superb flowered vase design, in which a generous bouquet of tulips, carnations, and palmettes blooms against a deep midnight blue background. The rich burgundy border, adorned with floral cartouches and Ottoman-inspired motifs, harmoniously frames the entire design. The shifting sheen of the silk highlights every detail of the design and lends the rug a remarkable luminosity.
Thanks to its dimensions of 62 × 93 cm, this piece will look just as good laid on the floor in a refined interior as it will hung on the wall as a decorative piece, like a true textile painting.
