The design depicts a romantic lakeside landscape featuring tall pine trees, a medieval tower, half-timbered houses, mountains, and reflections on the water. The composition is exquisitely rendered with a remarkable sense of depth.
The piece is signed “Richard” within the design, near the base. This signature is generally associated with glassware produced by the Johann Loetz Witwe factory for the Parisian distributor Richard (Maison Richard/Etling) in the 1920s.
