Murano Crystal Perfume Bottle, Millefiori Design – Late 19th Century

The Millefiori design, literally “a thousand flowers”, is achieved through a technique of great virtuosity. Thin, multicolored glass rods, called murrine, are assembled, stretched, and then cut to reveal an infinite number of small rosettes evoking a carpet of flowers. Each piece is unique; the design can never be reproduced exactly.

This bottle features a particularly harmonious composition, in which shades of deep blue, white, green, and turquoise seem to float within the transparency of the crystal. Its original stopper, also adorned with a remarkable Millefiori design, elegantly complements the piece and highlights the quality of craftsmanship in this work.
