This impressive 19th century covered faience vessel was produced by the celebrated Manufacture de Gien, one of France’s most prestigious ceramic makers. Decorated in a rich cobalt blue on a soft ivory-white ground, it features an elegant botanical composition of blooming flowers, graceful foliage and delicate insects, including dragonflies and bees, all executed with remarkable detail. The twisted blue borders framing both the body and the lid add further refinement, while the original woven swing handle with its turned wooden grip provides a beautiful contrast in texture and colour.

Dating to the late 19th-century, circa 1880–1900, this substantial piece perfectly illustrates the exceptional quality and decorative sophistication for which Gien became internationally renowned. The underside retains the factory mark, confirming its manufacture by Gien.

Originally created as part of a refined French household service, this covered vessel has long outgrown its original purpose and today is admired primarily for its decorative presence. Whether displayed on a console, kitchen island, dining room sideboard or country house interior, it offers timeless French charm and makes an unusual conversation piece. It may also be used as an elegant decorative storage container, while remaining a fine example of 19th-century French faience.

Its generous proportions, beautifully preserved blue and white decoration, original wicker swing handle and matching cover make this a particularly desirable and increasingly uncommon example from the Manufacture de Gien.

Presented in very good antique condition with only light wear consistent with age and careful use.
