Niderviller, circa 1780
Flat dinner plate with scalloped edges. Decorated with a scattered pattern of barbel fish, a blue border on the rim, and the monogram “DN” beneath the crown of the Austro-Hungarian Prince (and the Holy Roman Empire). This is likely part of a service commissioned by Franz-Joseph (1767–1854), the eighth prince of that name.
The Count of Custine was a shrewd businessman who counted many notable figures among his clients, including, notably, George Washington.
Condition report: wear to the decoration. No chips or cracks.
