K P M- Madeleine Lisant Porcelain Plate
Artist: Kpm - Manufacture Royale De Porcelaine De Berlin
Porcelain plate depicting Mary Magdalene reading, after Correggio’s painting, Germany, circa 1880. Bears the manufacturer’s mark on the back.
The saint is reclining on her stomach, propping her head up with her right arm; she is depicted reading, holding the open book against her left forearm. Her upper body is bare; her long, blond-red hair is framed by a blue tunic pinned into her hair, covering her stomach and legs. On her right side is the perfume jar—the one she poured over Christ’s feet at Simon the Pharisee’s house—and it is also the precious nard with which she anointed Christ at Simon the Leper’s house, foreshadowing the perfumes used at the tomb. Framed, dimensions: 16x23 cm; with frame: 29x35 cm
