Antique Painting Kitchen Scene Oil On Canvas Flemish School Original

Oil on canvas dating from the early 17th-century Flemish school, depicting a lively interior scene in a large palace kitchen. In the foreground, an elaborately set table displays a rich variety of foods, including fruit, vegetables, and game, as well as a live turkey in a basket on the left. The composition includes several figures: the cook in the center of the scene is examining a chicken, while on the right an assistant is rolling out dough; in the doorway on the left, a hunter peeks in discreetly, while next to a large fireplace, where a fire is burning, a figure watches over a large pot. In the background, a couple of gentlemen are observing a peacock placed in a basket atop a large sideboard. The work is characterized by a wealth of detail and a variety of colors, especially in the naturalistic elements, and follows the style and painterly techniques of Joachim Beuckelaer (1533–1574), a Flemish painter who was also active in Italy, specializing in market and kitchen scenes, renowned for his detailed depictions of food and household items, and who made his name precisely for his magnificent still lifes set in the foreground. The painting has been restored and re-painted in the past. It is currently displayed in a period-style frame.
