Large Gold Lattice Cross From Chambéry (savoie), 19th Century.

This 18-karat gold cross, once worn by married women,
features a figure of Christ in half-relief on its main side,
cast separately and then soldered on. Above the head, a large cartouche
bears the inscription INRI, standing for “Jesus of Nazareth, King of the Jews.”
On the reverse is a figure of the Virgin and Child. The ends of the cross
terminate in large fleurons pierced with three holes.
This type of cross was found in the Chambéry Gorge, in the
Savoie Valley, the Val d’Arly, and in the Lower and Middle Tarentaise regions.
Horse-head hallmark for the period 1838–1919.
Hallmark of Jacques Lombard in a diamond shape. Active in Year VI and found on
the registration plate for gold and silver hallmarks of the
Mont Blanc department, which is located in the Chambéry archives.
