August Weber (1817–1873) — Düsseldorf School —

August Weber, 1817–1873, German painter, watercolorist, and lithographer born in Frankfurt am Main. He had a predilection for landscapes in the realistic and romantic styles. He studied painting in Frankfurt under Heinrich Rosenkranz, and continued his studies in 1835 under Johann Heinrich Schilbach in Darmstadt, then at the Städel Institute in Frankfurt. In 1838, he moved to Düsseldorf. He became a professor, and his students included Theodor Martens and John Robinson Tait. In 1844, the year he married, he co-founded the Düsseldorf Artists’ Association. He died of pneumonia on September 9, 1873. Works are held in museums in Cologne, Düsseldorf, Kaliningrad, and Leipzig.
