Biography:
Ernest Wante(1872–1960) was a Belgian painter and sculptor. Born in Ghent, he studied at the Sint-Niklaas School of Drawing, the Royal Academy of Antwerp, and the Higher Institute of Fine Arts in Antwerp. In 1893, he won the Godecharle Prize, which enabled him to undertake a study trip to Germany. He taught for many years at the Antwerp Academy.

A successful artist, Ernest Wante exhibited his paintings and sculptures in Belgium and abroad. He painted landscapes and portraits, but is also known for his frescoes and religious compositions. This artist’s murals are preserved in the churches of the colleges in Brussels, Antwerp, Bruges, Ghent, and Shanghai.
