Kunio Kaneko is a Sosaku-hanga artist born in Tokyo in 1949. He graduated from the Mushino University of Art in 1972, where he studied under the artists

Joichi Hoshi and Sasajima Kihei.

His works draw inspiration from both great traditional Japanese classics such as koi carp and Mount Fuji, as well as everyday objects.

Hisprints are all created by hand using the traditional Japanese Baren technique. He has mastered a highly elaborate technique of applying gold and silver leaf, which lends a unique depth and luster to his works
He works primarily in small formats, which are highly prized for decorating interiors that are often compact in Japan.
Kunio Kaneko’s goal is to create “Neo-Japanese Art”—an art form deeply rooted in Japanese tradition while embracing universal perspectives.

He has participated in several group and solo exhibitions in Japan, South Korea, Thailand, France, and the United States.
