Pair Of Cast-iron Vases
Artist: Claude Ballin
A pair of cast-iron vases modeled after a design by Claude Ballin. After King Louis XIV had ordered the melting down of furniture, candelabra, chandeliers, and other architectural elements for the war effort, he requested that certain pieces be cast in a less precious material, such as bronze or cast iron. At Versailles, they are often made of bronze, while cast iron versions were produced for less affluent clients.
