France, Second Empire: a rare and uncommon “ROTOVOLVER,” designed by Sébastien Amédée NOEL, Captain of Armaments, gunsmith, and inventor, and GOUERY JF., gunsmith in Paris.
Revolver with a patented mechanism, patented on March 6, 1865, by NOEL & GOUERY in Paris.
This patent, granted for 15 years under number 66493, protects the manufacture of this remarkable firearm, which has gone down in history as the “ROTOVOLVER.”
An original revolver with a flat cylinder and a turret that has the distinctive feature of pivoting around an axis perpendicular to the barrel, with a capacity of 10 rounds in 7.5 mm caliber.
Fulminate-capsule ammunition.
All metal parts have a light gray patina.
All parts bear the same serial number: 181
Openwork frame with engraved foliage motifs.
Polygonal barrel with sighting device
Traces of markings on each side of the barrel band within an oval.
On the left: “JF GOUERY CANT”
On the right: “NOEL SGDG”
Folding trigger guard and black ebonite checkered and engraved grip plates, secured by a central through-screw.
Right-side hammer with pivoting safety
Opening providing access to the cylinder, on the left side via a locking hook (see photos)
