White Opaline Set, Charles X Style, With Gold-enameled Decoration
A three-piece set in white opaline (with a pale blue tint at the base), in the Charles X style, featuring rich polychrome enamel decoration accented with burnished gold. The motif, repeated on all three pieces, combines a band of gilded diamond-patterned latticework with a frieze of floral bouquets (daisies, grape clusters, and foliage) rendered in shades of gray-blue and gold, framed by gilded fillets and rings.
The set includes:
- A baluster-shaped bottle with a long, fluted neck, adorned with superimposed gilded bands, closed with a matching ball stopper;
- A domed lidded jar (sugar bowl or box) with a knob-handled lid, featuring the same decoration;
- A goblet or cup on a pedestal, with a stem and flared circular base, the flared body featuring the same floral decoration and gold netting.
French work (Baccarat, Saint-Louis, or Choisy-le-Roi produced this type of piece), dating from the Charles X period, circa 1825–1830 — a period characterized by the use of colored opaline and fire-fixed gold decorations, often complemented by polychrome enamels imitating porcelain.
