Large cat from the Bavent pottery village near Caen in Normandy, signed “C. LANGLOIS” on the square base.
These sculptures were generally placed on the roofs of Anglo-Norman houses along the Opal Coast.
This imposing piece has suffered some wear and tear over the years it spent decorating a roof; at some point, the cat must have become detached from its base. The crackle glaze is in fairly good condition.
