Second Empire-era Hand Mirror With A Mercury-coated Surface And Beveled Edges, Made Of Gilded Bronze
Here is a lovely oval hand mirror from the Napoleon III period. The mirror has beveled edges and is made with mercury, so it shows some minor signs of wear over time, which are of no consequence. The oval frame is profiled with laurel motifs surrounded by a beaded border; the handle, featuring openwork foliage, is in the Directoire style. The front of this hand mirror is dominated by a pleated ribbon bow surrounded by floral motifs. The back is made of dark blue woven cardboard.
