Square Grenadine silk shawl that has retained its stiff finish, likely manufactured in Lyon or Saint-Étienne during the Second French Empire. Black double-twisted silk (a characteristic of Grenadine silk). Decorated with wide gold-yellow and brown satin borders and a central field filled with brocaded florets. Color-matched knotted fringes on all four sides. Note: there are four or five tiny needle holes that do not compromise the shawl’s structural integrity. Wearable today. Good color and overall condition.
