Sheep with a Dog by the Ancient Well in Roman Campagna by Philipp Peter Roos / Rosa da Tivoli (1657–1706) - attributed
Due to the identical style, quality, and period of creation, we have attributed this painting to the German-Italian painter Philipp Peter Roos, also known as Rosa di Tivoli (1651 in Frankfurt am Main – 1705 in Tivoli, near Rome). He was initially trained by his father, the painter Johann Heinrich Roos, and from 1677 onward by H. Brandis in Rome. Roos achieved fame as an animal painter. He often painted shepherds and herds in landscapes. Philipp Peter Roos was the son of the painter Johann Heinrich Roos and the brother of the painter Johann Melchior Roos.
