Filigree Silver Ball Bouquet Holder – Mid-19th Century, Napoleon III
An elegant ball bouquet holder with a filigree silver mount, dating from the Napoleon III era (circa 1855–1870), exemplifying the refinement of women’s fashion accessories during the Second Empire.
Designed to hold a small bouquet of fresh flowers at balls, receptions, and social gatherings, this precious object allowed elegant ladies to preserve their flowers while showcasing them.
The conical receptacle is entirely crafted from remarkable silver filigree, richly openwork and adorned with a design of blooming flowers, foliage, and silver beads.
The handle, also made of filigree, ends in an elegant fluted knob and is connected to the bouquet holder by its original chain.
This model features an ingenious retractable mechanism that allows three legs to extend, transforming the bouquet holder into an elegant display stand.
It could thus be set on a table between dances without crushing the flowers—a detail characteristic of the most refined models of the era.
The goldsmith’s work is exceptionally fine and attests to the craftsmanship of workshops specializing in luxury accessories.
