Jacqueline Bloch, "a Corner Of A Flowering Garden"
Artist: Jacqueline Bloch
Jacqueline Bloch. Oil on canvas, “A Corner of a Flowering Garden,” signed lower left “Jacqueline Bloch.” French School. 54 x 65 cm. Jacqueline Bloch (1888–1972) was a student of Jeanne Burdy (1879–1932) and Jean-Baptiste Duffaud (1853–1927).
The artist, who painted portraits, landscapes, flowers, and still lifes, began her career at the Salon des Artistes Français in 1932 and went on to exhibit at the Salon de la Nationale starting in 1937 (sources: Bénézit Dictionary of Painters and Sculptors).
Yet another artist whose talent went unrecognized in her own time. Nevertheless, with a soft color palette, an economical use of means, and an unpretentious composition, the painter beautifully captures the tranquility that envelops the family estate on a sunny summer morning.
Gilded and painted wooden frame by Maison Delf (1970s). Good condition.
