Charles-Louis de Secondat, Baron de La Brède and de Montesquieu, a renowned 18th-century French political thinker and moralist, became president of the Parliament of Bordeaux after studying philosophy. Passionate about the sciences, he began by publishing scientific works on subjects such as echoes, glands, and gravity, before turning his attention to philosophy and literature. Montesquieu then traveled extensively and even became a Freemason. He published *The Spirit of the Laws* and began contributing to the *Encyclopédie*. He ended his life blind and died in 1755. In good condition, but incomplete: the *Persian Letters* and the first part of *Considerations on the Causes of the Greatness of the Romans and Their Decline*.
