This small-format portrait belongs to a type of painting characteristic of the French School during the early Restoration period. Inheriting the balance, clarity, and disciplined composition of Neoclassicism, it gradually moves away from the official portrait and the idealised models of the Imperial era. The sitter is presented in a more intimate manner, with her identity expressed through her features, bearing, and contemporary attire.

The costume is one of the most remarkable aspects of the painting. The muslin or batiste bonnet, finished with a flounced edge, delicately frames the face while allowing soft curls to emerge. The red shawl, decorated with a discreet floral pattern, introduces an elegant chromatic contrast. Particularly noteworthy is the broad muslin or white batiste collar, arranged in several tiers of pleats and flounces, whose refined construction reflects the importance given to fashionable dress during the Restoration period. The white high-waisted gown still retains the legacy of the Empire silhouette.

The delicately modelled face, restrained palette, and meticulous rendering of the fabrics lend the portrait its refined elegance.
