[MANUSCRIPT] - Draft of a Dictionary of Terms in Military Architecture, Warfare, etc…. No place, Published by the author, 1740; folio, approximately 400 pp., contemporary full marbled sheepskin binding, blank spine with raised bands.
A work on military affairs illustrated with numerous sketches depicting various troop formations, fortifications, mines, howitzers, cannons, defensive weapons, firecrackers, and other festivities… Very beautiful handwriting; the text begins with the date August 25, 1740. A highly accomplished dictionary project, followed by a few scattered notes; the author studied Polybius and numerous ancient texts in Rollin’s translation. He researched the tactics of historical figures ranging from Darius and Alexander the Great to Henry IV, Alexander Farnese, and Charles IV, Duke of Lorraine—the latter mentioned in the text regarding the siege of Brisach. Possibly from Lorraine.
